Remember, an adjective must always agree with the noun it describes, so if the noun is in the accusative case, the adjective must also be in the accusative case.

Adjectives describing masculine/neuter inanimate nouns:

Same as nominative.

Unstressed: -ый, -ий, stressed: -ой

e.g. Я читаю интересный журнал. ‘I’m reading an interesting newspaper.

Adjectives describing masculine/neuter animate nouns:

Same as the genitive (which we will look at in more detail in the next lesson).

-ого, -его (soft adjectives and unstressed adjectives whose stem ends in ж, ч, ш, щ, ц)

e.g. хороший врач - Я знаю хорошего нового врача ’I know a good new doctor’

      твой древний врач - Я знаю твоего древнего врача ’I know your ancient doctor.’

In the unlikely event of a neuter noun being animate, the adjective which describes it takes the same endings as a masculine adjective, for example важное лицо ‘VIP, very important person’:

e.g. Вы знаете этого важного лица? ‘Do you know this very important person?’

Adjectives describing feminine nouns:

Always change, in both inanimate and animate.

-ую, -юю (soft adjectives)

новая (unstressed) - Я люблю новую квартиру. ‘I love the new flat.’

молодая (stressed) - Я люблю молодую актриса. ‘I love the young actress.’

древняя (soft) - Я люблю древнюю квартиру. ‘I love the ancient flat.’

Inanimate plurals:

Same as the nominative plural. Applies to all genders.

-ые, -ие

e.g.

Unstressed: новый - новые  - Я читаю новые книги. ‘I read the new books.’

                хороший - хорошие (no unstressed o after ж, ч, ш, щ, ц) - Я знаю хорошие рестораны. ‘I know good restaurants.’

Stressed: плохой - плохие - Он передал плохие новости. ‘He passed on the bad news.’

Soft: древний - древние - Я люблю древние города. I love ancient cities.

Animate plurals:

-ых, -их

Unstressed: новый - новых - Я знаю новых студентов. ‘I know the new students.’

                хороший - хороших - Я знаю хороших врачей. ‘I know good doctors.’

Stressed: плохой - плохих - Он критикует плохих актёров. ‘He criticises bad actors.’

Soft: древний - древних - Я люблю древних писателей. ‘I love ancient writers.’
